.
The painting reflects the words of the poem Mermaid which accompanies the piece. Addiction is seen as a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences. Addiction to Love, a person or a drug. Addiction has an astoundingly high toll on individuals. Mermaids may have been influenced by the Sirens of Greek mythology and have been a popular subject of art and literature. I believe they are used as a metaphor for the desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise.
